The Growlers - October 2, 2026

Beach Goth came to the ballpark. The Growlers brought their hazy mix of surf, garage, and lo-fi pop to Gallagher Square on Friday, October 2, 2026. It was the band’s first West Coast tour since reuniting, and San Diego was the second-to-last night before the run wrapped at LA’s Greek Theatre. All ages, outdoors, and a short drive up the coast from where it all started.

About The Growlers

The Growlers started in Dana Point in 2006 and later made Long Beach home base. Their sound—surf guitar, garage-rock grit, a little country twang, and Brooks Nielsen’s lazy, sun-baked croon—got its own nickname: “Beach Goth.” They liked it enough to name a festival after it.

Records like Hung at Heart, Chinese Fountain, and City Club built a cult following that never really went away, even when the band did. Songs like “Going Gets Tuff” and “One Million Lovers” still get shouted back at them word for word.

The Comeback Tour

The Growlers went quiet after 2019. They came back in 2026 with their first global run in six years, starting in Australia in January and working through the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. The touring lineup was Brooks Nielsen on vocals, Kyle Straka on keys and guitar, and original drummer Richard Gowen.

The fall West Coast leg ran from Santa Cruz through San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver before coming home to Southern California. San Diego got Friday night. LA got the Greek on Saturday, and that was the end of the tour.

The Setlist

The reunion tour sets were built around the fan favorites—“Going Gets Tuff,” “One Million Lovers,” and the Chinese Fountain and City Club material—plus the newer singles from the reunion. The live versions ran looser and louder than the records, which was the point.

The all-ages lawn drew a mix of longtime Beach Goth regulars and younger fans who found the band on their own.

Gallagher Square is the grass lawn beyond the outfield at Petco Park, with room for about 6,000 fans. Stand up front near the stage or hang back on the slope with a view of the ballpark lights behind you.
