Are dogs allowed at Petco Park? [Service Animals, Barkyard, Bark At The Park]

A surprisingly common question for a baseball game is: Can you bring your dog to Petco Park?

Despite the name and the high pup population in San Diego, the answer is usually no. You can’t simply bring your dog to a regular Padres game and sit together in the stands. Petco Park does, however, have some important exceptions for dogs.

There are three situations you’ll want to know about: service animals, Bark at the Park, and the Barkyard.

When Can I Bring My Dog to Petco Park?

There are a few ways dogs can legitimately be part of the Petco Park experience:

• Bark at the Park — special Padres games and events where dogs are permitted in designated areas.
• The Barkyard — dedicated dog-friendly viewing areas in left-center field, available for Padres home games.
• Service animals — trained service animals are welcome at Padres games in accordance with the ADA.

So if you’re wondering, “Can I just buy a regular Padres ticket and bring my dog?” — no. The Barkyard is not the same thing as ordinary dog-friendly seating, and Bark at the Park is a special event rather than a general ballpark policy.

Barkyard vs. Bark at the Park: What’s the Difference?

This is where things get confusing. Both involve dogs and Padres baseball, but they’re very different experiences.

In plain English: The Barkyard is where you go if you want your dog to have a dedicated place to hang out during a baseball game. Bark at the Park is where you go when the Padres are specifically hosting a dog-friendly event.

Are Dogs Allowed in Gallagher Square?

Yes, when Gallagher Square is open to the public, dogs are generally welcome there subject to the City of San Diego’s leash laws.

That does not mean dogs are free to wander into the rest of Petco Park. Gallagher Square and the ballpark are treated differently, and special events can have their own rules.

Service Animals

Service animals are welcome guests at Petco Park. The Padres follow the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and permit trained service animals that are individually trained to perform work or tasks related to a person’s disability.

Emotional support, comfort, or companionship alone does not qualify an animal as a service animal under the ADA.

Bark At The Big Screen

On August 12, 2026, Petco Park hosted Bark At The Big Screen, a dog-friendly watch party held at Petco Park’s Gallagher Square, celebrating Petco’s 60th birthday. The event invited fans to bring their dogs for an evening outdoor screening of The Sandlot.

Can I Bring My Dog to a Regular Padres Game?

Not unless you’re attending with a service animal or have tickets for a dog-specific experience such as the Barkyard or Bark at the Park.

For everyone else, Fluffy and Fido will have to watch the game from home. Fortunately, San Diego has plenty of pet-friendly hotels near Petco Park if you’re visiting with a dog and need somewhere to stay.
