Trolley to Petco Park - Schedule and Stops

Convenient and fun, leave your car at one of the Park and Ride lots and hop on a Trolley to the San Diego Padres baseball game. Yes, the trolley goes to Petco Park. There are a few stations near the stadium to conveniently get you to the game.



Trolley Stop Details

The stop closest to Petco Park is 12th & Imperial. But you can easily access the stadium if you get off the trolley at the Park (12th) and Market stop or the Gaslamp Quarter Station (Fifth Ave and Harbor Drive). Any of these three trolley stops will serve you equally well and without any hassles.

Trolley Lines

The 12th & Imperial Station, just steps from the SD Padres baseball stadium, is serviced by all three major trolley service routes: Green Line, Orange Line and the new UCSD Blue Line, which runs southbound from UTC to Petco Park daily.
  • Green Line – The 23.6-mile Green Line connects Downtown San Diego, Fashion Valley Mall, Mission Valley, La Mesa, El Cajon, and Santee.
  • Orange Line – The 18-mile Orange Line serves Downtown San Diego with Lemon Grove, La Mesa, Grossmont and El Cajon.
  • Blue Line – The 26.3-mile Blue Line runs between the UTC Transit Center and the San Ysidro Transit Center, providing connections to La Jolla, Downtown San Diego, Santa Fe Depot, Old Town, National City, Chula Vista, and the Mexico border.

How Much Does The Trolley Cost

The trolley is not free. A ticket costs $2.50 and a round-trip ticket costs $5 and lasts all day. Unlimited all-day passes cost $6. (Fare Chart). Reduced fares are available for senior citizens 65+.

Children Ride Free – Children 18 years of age or younger can ride MTS public transit for free with a Youth Opportunity Pass. Kids are also free on weekends, part of the Family Weekends promotion: Two kids 12 and under ride free with an adult, no PRONTO card needed.

Local Tip: Purchase round trip fares in advance to save time after the event.

Use the PRONTO card or the mobile app for convenient fare payment. Load money onto your PRONTO card or app in advance to avoid ticket machine lines. The money won’t expire so consider loading for future trips as well.

Best Places to Park and Ride

Convenient Park & Ride lots provide parking options located throughout San Diego County. Parking is free! The most popular and recommended Park & Ride locations, convenient to Petco Park are:
  • Old Town Transit Center (412 spots)
  • El Cajon Transit Center (469 spots)
  • Palm Avenue (499 spots)
  • Balboa Avenue (277 spots)

    Trolley From Old Town

    For directions from the Old Town stop, take the Green Line. Its about 20-25 minutes and costs $2.50. Old Town is a major transportation hub in San Diego. The Old Town Transit Center serves as a connection point for various modes of public transportation, including buses, trolleys, and trains and is a popular route to Padres games. The transit center provides access to the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) buses and trolleys, which serve the greater San Diego area. The trolley lines that run through the Old Town Transit Center include the Blue Line and the Green Line. These lines connect Old Town with downtown San Diego, the San Diego International Airport, and various other destinations within the city.

    Additionally, the Old Town Transit Center offers connections to Amtrak and the Coaster commuter train.

    The Old Town area itself is a historic neighborhood that showcases San Diego’s rich heritage. It features preserved buildings from the 19th century, including adobe structures, museums, restaurants, and specialty shops. Visitors can explore the Old Town State Historic Park, which offers a glimpse into the city’s early history and provides cultural experiences.

    Important Notes

    • Everyone needs their own PRONTO card or app account. You cannot pay for multiple people with one PRONTO app account or card, each person will need their own fare.
    • Kids ride free but you need the Youth Opportunity Pass.
    • Kids 12 and under also ride free with family on Saturday and Sundays.
