About The Music

Bomba Estéreo is a Colombian band formed in Bogotá in 2005. Their sound is a wild fusion of electronic music, cumbia, and Afro-Colombian rhythms, often described as “electro-tropical” or psychedelic cumbia. They broke out internationally with the track Fuego and later hit another cultural moment with Soy Yo, an anthem of identity and self-confidence that went viral worldwide. Known for explosive live shows, they mix heavy beats, traditional percussion, and frontwoman Li Saumet’s commanding vocals into a high-energy experience that’s as much dance party as concert.

Rawayana, from Caracas, Venezuela, started in 2007 and call their style “trippy pop.” In practice, that means a genre-bending mix of reggae, funk, salsa, psychedelia, and modern pop. Their music reflects both escapism and resilience, offering a kind of sonic refuge from Venezuela’s political turmoil. Over time, their lyrics have sharpened, touching on social realities—sometimes controversially, as with their viral hit Veneka. Despite challenges at home, they’ve earned critical acclaim, a loyal fanbase, and even Grammy recognition.

In 2025, the two groups came together to form a collaborative supergroup called ASTROPICAL. What started as a casual jam session in Miami turned into a full album, recorded on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. The project blends Bomba Estéreo’s cumbia-driven electronic fire with Rawayana’s laid-back, kaleidoscopic groove. The songs carry themes of healing, unity, and cultural identity, with playful references to astrological signs woven through the tracklist.
