Ship's Whistle Home Run Celebration

Posted in 2023 in

Whenever the San Diego Padres hit a home run at Petco Park or end a game in victory, fireworks are shot into the sky from center field accompanied by a ship’s whistle sound.

The ship’s whistle sound is a recording of the whistle of the Navy’s USS Ronald Reagan, one of the many ways the Padres honor the Military.

Why the USS Ronald Reagan

The USS Ronald Reagan is a Nimitz-class nuclear aircraft carrier that was ported in San Diego. The supercarrier was commissioned for the US Navy in 2003 and named in honor of former President Ronald Reagan. The ship made five deployments to the Pacific and Middle East between 2006 and 2011 while based at Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego. In 2015, USS Ronald Reagan moved to port inYokosuka, Japan.
