Look around just about any park or tennis court in San Diego and you’ll here the vinegar thud of Pickleball. It is taking over and Petco Park is no exception.

Whether you’re already obsessed or just pi-curious, here’s everything you need to know about playing, watching, and paddling pickleball with the Padres and Petco Park’s famous skyline views.

Gallagher Square Pickleball: What to Know Before You Play

The pickleball courts at Gallagher Square are free and open to the community several times a month. Here’s what you need to know to get in the game:

  • Hours: Dawn to 8 PM (subject to change)
  • Gear Up: Bring your own paddles and balls
  • First Come, First Served: No reservations — just show up and play
  • Kids: Under 12? Bring an adult to supervise
  • Footwear: Non-marking athletic shoes required

What does baseball have in common with pickleball? Well… baseball… they both… you… hmmm… Ok actually come to think of it, more than one might realize:

  • They both live in the rally
  • They reward finesse, a well-placed dink can be lethal
  • They are social sports, more chatter than adrenaline
    Mark your calendar: Padres Pickleball Night is coming Saturday, September 13, 2025. Special theme game tickets include a game-ready Padres pickleball merch. Expect pickleball-themed fun throughout the park, including on-field demos and appearances from local pros. Oh and a baseball game! (v. Colorado Rockies).

    Serious about your dinks and slams? The Padres Pickleball Classic debuts this September:

    • Dates: September 6-7, 2025
    • Location: Barnes Tennis Center, Point Loma

    Calling all Pickleball lovers! In partnership with Racquet Escape, paddle it out at the inaugural Padres Pickleball Classic, taking place Saturday, September 6 and Sunday, September 7 at the Barnes Tennis Center.

    Four skill levels of play will be offered across men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. Register now to secure your spot in the tournament as well as a limited-edition themed Padres hat, and a ticket to that Rockies vs. Padres game on Saturday, September 13.
