Peter Seidler Way

On November 4, 2025, the San Diego Padres and the City of San Diego unveiled street signs honoring former owner Peter Seidler at the intersection of Trevor Hoffman Way and Park Boulevard, directly in front of Petco Park. Three signs were installed—at both ends from Imperial Avenue to the MTS Garage and across from the ballpark at Park 12.

Seidler passed away in November 2023 at age 63 after battling cancer. His charitable work included forming the Tuesday Group, an organization of business and civic leaders who worked on solutions for San Diego’s homeless population. In 2024, the San Diego Rotary Club honored him as “Mr. San Diego,” one of the city’s most prestigious recognitions.

Seidler came from baseball ownership lineage—his grandfather, Walter O’Malley, owned the Dodgers before and after their move to Los Angeles, and his uncle Peter O’Malley owned the team for years afterward. After earning an MBA from UCLA and launching private equity firm Seidler Equity Partners in 1992, he joined Peter O’Malley and Ron Fowler to purchase the Padres in 2012. He became primary owner in 2020 after buying out Fowler’s shares, and invested heavily in the team—raising payroll to sixth-highest in baseball in 2022 and third-highest in 2023.

The street dedication follows other memorials established after his death. The Padres added a jersey patch with his initials inside a gold heart, designed by his children, which players wear on all uniform combinations. Proceeds from patch sales benefit the Padres Foundation’s Peter Seidler Legacy Fund, supporting community grants in San Diego and northern Baja.

Peter Seidler Way now joins Tony Gwynn Drive and Trevor Hoffman Way as streets named after Padres legends outside the ballpark Seidler loved.
