In 2007, Petco Park was named the host of the USA Sevens, a two-day event, part of the ten tournaments of the IRB Sevens World Series. The tournament is the 2nd largest rugby event in North America.

2009 was the 6th Year the USA has hosted a leg of the IRB Sevens World Series.
