Rugby at Petco Park

Thanks to Petco Park, San Diego has a front row seat in the growth and acceptance of rugby in America. In 2007, Petco Park was named the host of the USA Sevens, a two-day event, part of the ten tournaments of the IRB Sevens World Series. The tournament is the 2nd largest rugby event in North America.

2009 was the 6th Year the USA has hosted a leg of the IRB Sevens World Series.
36,000 fans attended the 2008 tournament at Petco Park and 37,000 in 2009. Other locations in addition to San Diego include Las Vegas and Carson, California (site of the most recent tournament).

Quite a jewel for America’s Finest City, considering Rugby is said to be the world’s third largest behind soccer (football) and cricket.
