Padres - Athletics at Las Vegas Ballpark (2027)

Pending labor dispute resolutions, the Padres head to Nevada for a three-game series against the Athletics at Las Vegas Ballpark, May 31 – June 2, 2027 — Memorial Day weekend. It’s part of a six-game homestand the A’s are hosting in Vegas, with the Cincinnati Reds following June 3 – 5.

Where You’re Actually Going

This is not the flashy $2 billion domed stadium going up on the Strip — that one’s still under construction and won’t open until 2028. This series is at Las Vegas Ballpark, the current home of the Triple-A Las Vegas Aviators, located in Downtown Summerlin, about 20–25 minutes west of the Strip, next to Red Rock Casino & Resort. It’s a small, open-air park — roughly 10,000 fans at capacity — nothing like the scale of Petco Park.

Expect a Launching Pad

Summerlin sits around 3,000 feet above sea level, and combined with hot, dry desert air, the ball carries a lot further than it does at Petco Park. This isn’t theoretical: when the A’s played an actual six-game regular-season set at Las Vegas Ballpark in June 2026, the two teams combined for 35 home runs and 47 runs across the series — including a series-opener that finished 15-14 in 12 innings with 34 hits. If you like offense, this is the series to watch.

The Heat

Early June in Las Vegas regularly hits 95–100°F in the daytime, and it stays warm well into the evening even for night games. Unlike the future domed Strip stadium, Las Vegas Ballpark is fully open-air — dress and hydrate like you’re going to a desert, because you are.

Why Vegas At All

The Athletics play the bulk of their home games at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento through 2027 as a bridge before their 2028 move to Las Vegas. Rather than play every home game in Sacramento during that stretch, the club is hosting select series in Las Vegas — like this one — to build up their future market and fan base ahead of the permanent relocation.

Construction on that permanent Strip stadium is currently on budget and on schedule: the project’s cost has grown from an original $1.5 billion estimate to $2 billion, and as of this August, the team had spent $600 million of it, 14 months after breaking ground in June 2025.
