NASCAR in San Diego

San Diego doesn’t have a NASCAR track, but racing culture has roots here. The old Cajon Speedway in El Cajon ran from 1961 to 2005, hosting sprint cars, midgets, and stock cars. Before that, Balboa Stadium held midget races in the 1930s and 40s.

Further south, Tijuana has hosted NASCAR races at Autódromo Potosino, and the region’s proximity to Southern California means plenty of NASCAR fans in the area. Fontana’s Auto Club Speedway is about 90 miles north, close enough that San Diego fans make the trip for Cup Series races.
