Free Ride Downtown Shuttles (FRED)

Experience the convenience and sustainability of Free Ride Everywhere Downtown (FRED)! This electric shuttle service is available seven days a week and supported by sponsoring brands, so you can enjoy a free ride that’s good for the environment. From Monday through Thursday, catch a ride between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. On Fridays, rides are available from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. And Saturdays and Sundays, you can catch a shuttle from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., respectively. FRED, short for Free Ride Everywhere Downtown, is the San Diego-branded version of Circuit Transit, which was started as The Free Ride by co-founders James Mirras and Alex Esposito in 2011.

FRED Schedule

Monday – Thursday: 7 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Friday: 7 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Sunday: 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.

How It Works

FRED open-air shuttles service a region from Little Italy to East Village. You can request a pickup via the mobile app or wave down any of the electric fleet. There are currently 20 in San Diego.




Cost

It is free to ride the fleet, subsidized by the City of San Diego and advertising. Free at least through April 2024, which is when the current arrangement will come up for renewal.
