The San Diego Padres return to Mexico City for a two-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 25-26, 2026 at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú. MLB officially announced the series on December 10, 2025, marking the third regular season visit to Mexico’s capital and the only MLB international series scheduled for 2026.
This marks a homecoming of sorts for both teams. The Padres and Diamondbacks were originally scheduled to play in Mexico City in April 2020, but those games were canceled due to the pandemic. Six years later, the NL West rivals finally meet south of the border.
The timing adds competitive intrigue—both teams enter April jockeying for position in a loaded NL West. A strong showing could set the tone for the season, especially since the Padres and Diamondbacks close out their regular season rivalry with a series in San Diego from September 25-27.
For MLB, the Mexico City games are part of a broader push to grow baseball internationally. Mexico has deep baseball culture and a massive Padres fan base due to San Diego’s proximity to the border. The Padres have long been frontrunners for MLB’s Mexico initiatives, and the fan atmosphere at these games is electric—a festival-like energy that blends MLB action with Mexican baseball culture.
“We are honored to bring Padres baseball back to Mexico City for another unforgettable series in 2026,” said Padres CEO Erik Greupner. “Our debut there in 2023 was historic, and this return reflects our continued commitment to celebrate our bi-national fan base and help grow the game of baseball internationally.”
The stadium sits at 7,349 feet above sea level—more than 2,100 feet higher than Coors Field in Denver, making it one of the most hitter-friendly environments in professional baseball. The 2023 Padres-Giants series showcased this dramatically, with 11 home runs hit in the first game alone (a wild 16-11 Padres victory).
