Diamond Room San Diego

Posted in 2026 in

The Diamond Room is an upscale cocktail lounge and small plates restaurant that opened in January 2026 at Gallagher Square, right next to Petco Park. It’s a year-round venue outside the stadium gates—you don’t need a game or concert ticket to get in.

This isn’t the Diamond Club you might see advertised on TV during Padres broadcasts. That’s the in-stadium premium seating area (now called the Lexus or Blue Shield Home Plate Club). The Diamond Room is a separate, standalone restaurant and bar in the historic Simon Levi Building.

Getting There

Gallagher Square is on the south side of Petco Park, accessible from Park Boulevard. The Diamond Room occupies the corner spot in the restored 1913 warehouse building. If you remember City Tacos being there, that’s the exact location.

The Vibe

The Diamond Room goes hard on 1970s retro-chic. Think red velvet curtains, black leather booths, mirrored walls, a disco ball, and turntables. It’s designed to feel like an intimate speakeasy rather than a sports bar—about 50 seats total, with low lighting and table service.

This is a linger spot, not a high-volume place. It’s built for cocktails and conversation, whether you’re killing time before first pitch or settling in after a concert lets out.

Food & Drink

Cocktails

The bar program leans into 1970s-inspired drinks with modern execution. Signature cocktails include:

  • Baxter’s Old Fashioned – Anchorman reference, classic preparation
  • The Diamond Margarita – Clarified tequila version
  • The Fluffy Garibaldi – Served with nitro-infused orange juice

Expect craft cocktails in the $15-18 range. This isn’t a beer-and-shot bar.

Food

The menu is small plates designed for sharing. Standout item is the Diamond Dog, a Korean-style corn dog made with premium Snake River Farms beef. Other options include 1970s-style fondue for two, flatbreads, and curated small bites.

This is elevated bar food, not full dinner entrees. Come here for drinks with good snacks, not a three-course meal.

When to Go

Game Days

The Diamond Room operates on both game days and non-game days. On Padres home game days, it serves as a pre-game and post-game spot. You can walk directly from the Diamond Room into Gallagher Square and then to your gate entrance.

Expect it to be busier 1-2 hours before first pitch and right after games end. Reservations aren’t typically mentioned in their materials, but for big games or concert nights, calling ahead makes sense.

Non-Game Days

This venue was specifically created to activate the Ballpark District year-round, not just during the 81 home games. It’s open most evenings even when nothing is happening at the stadium. This makes it a legitimate option for East Village dining and drinks any night of the week (except their typical Tuesday/Wednesday closures).

Special Events

The Diamond Room connects to the Finest Collective offices (the Padres’ hospitality arm), allowing it to expand for larger private parties. During Cupid’s Skate Party and other Gallagher Square events, they run Valentine’s-themed cocktail menus and event tie-ins.

Who Runs It

The Diamond Room is a collaboration between the Padres’ Finest Collective hospitality group and Patina Group, a division of Delaware North (the company that handles food service throughout Petco Park). This means it has the backing of the stadium’s infrastructure but operates more like a standalone restaurant.

Building History

The Simon Levi Building was constructed in 1913 as a warehouse for the Simon Levi Company, a wholesale grocery distributor. It’s a designated historic landmark, which is why the exposed brick walls and industrial features were preserved during the renovation.

When the Padres redeveloped Gallagher Square (formerly Park at the Park), keeping this building intact was required. The most recent tenant in this exact space was City Tacos, which closed to make way for the Diamond Room concept.
