About the USWNT
The US Women’s National Soccer Team is a dominant force in international women’s soccer. Achieving unprecedented success, they’ve won four Women’s World Cup titles, four Olympic gold medals, and numerous
CONCACAF Gold Cups. The team enjoyed the longest continuous No. 1 position from 2008 to 2014. The
USWNT’s impact extends beyond the field, with significant strides in equal pay, including a historic lawsuit settlement for equal compensation between male and female players. Recently, Vlatko Andonovski announced his resignation as head coach and a replacement has not yet been named. After a much-too-shallow swim in the World Cup, eyes are focused on the 2024 Olympics in Paris on the horizon, with a few International Friendly games in between. The team’s next scheduled game is vs South Africa. That game will be played on September 21, 2023 in Cincinnati, OH, with other International Friendly games scheduled in Chicago, Hartford CT and Nashville, through October 17, 2023. Will San Diego be next?
The current USWNT lineup features two local stars from San Diego Wave FC: Naomi Girma and Alex Morgan. Girma, NWSL Rookie of the Year and Defender of the Year, was the first player drafted in Wave history. Morgan is already a USWNT legend, and recently played in her fourth World Cup.

About Colombia’s Womens National Football Team
Colombia had a remarkable performance at the 2023
FIFA Women’s World Cup. The futbol team emerged as winners of Group H by defeating Germany 2-1, thanks to a late header goal from Manuala Vanegas. This victory marked a significant achievement, as Germany is a two-time Women’s World Cup champion. Colombia continued their success by securing their first-ever knockout match win at a Women’s World Cup, beating Jamaica 1-0. However, their journey ended in the quarterfinals with a 2-1 loss to England, the Women’s World Cup runners-up.
Looking ahead, Colombia, alongside the USA, has already secured a spot in the 2024 Summer Olympics in France. Both teams view these upcoming matches as valuable preparation for the Olympic Women’s Soccer Tournament. Out of the 12 participating teams, only four have qualified thus far: France (as the host), the USA, Brazil, and Colombia.
