The Championship is scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM.

Its been a great year for soccer at Snapdragon Stadium, hosting CONCACAF Gold Cup semi-finals, Manchester United vs Wrexham and Germany’s Borussia Dortmund, SDSU Aztecs v USD Toreros Mens and Womens soccer teams and helping to attract a MLS team to San Diego.

About the NSWL

The National Women’s Soccer League began in 2012 as the successor to Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS), which was itself the successor to the Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA). The NWSL is the top-tier women’s soccer league in the United States and features teams from various cities across the country.

Ownership & Teams

The NWSL is owned by the teams themselves. Until 2020, there was a management contract between the league and the United States Soccer Federation, but that contract was terminated after the 2020 season.

The league started with eight teams in 2013, four of which were former members of WPS. As of 2023, the NWSL has 12 teams located in different cities across the United States.

Playoff Format

As of 2023, the NWSL postseason playoff format includes the top six teams from the regular season. The top two teams receive a first-round bye to skip to the semifinal round, and the remaining four teams compete in single knockout matches. The winners of the semifinals will face off in the championship final at a predetermined location. In 2023, this has been determined to be Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego.
