Petco Park was built for baseball. But, with only 82 home games a year (plus playoffs? Anyone…?), that leaves a great chunk of opportunity for the facility in the offseason. Hosting additional events in the stadium, including concerts, festivals, shows, and other large-venue happenings, benefits the city, local businesses and San Diego residents.
Like everything else, it comes down to money. And the Padres are currently working out a revenue deal with the city that will hopefully make everyone with their hands extended happy.
Currently the San Diego Padres receive 30 percent of revenue from off-season events. They would like a significantly fatter slice of pie: 70 percent, as the team is part-owners of the stadium and they pay for some of the operating expenses.
Hopefully the almighty green will provide some incentive. The list of past musicians who have performed at Petco Park includes the Rolling Stones and Madonna.See below for a calendar of upcoming events at Petco Park in San Diego. Also don’t miss the latest Padres promotions and giveaways.
