Extra food donated to Rescue Mission
610 pounds of meat, 1 1/2 tons of vegetables and hundrends of pounds of bread and other buns were charitably donated to the San Diego Rescue Mission by Petco Park at the end of the season.
The food was on hand to feed fans should the Padres force a Game 5 in San Diego against the now-champion St. Louis Cardinals in the NLDS.
When the Padres were eliminated and their season ended, the food was used instead to feed the needy at shelters across San Diego.
Moral of the story: When the baseball gods hand you lemons, make lemonade!
